Infants & Toddlers

At Little Star Day School, we know that the first three years of life are an extraordinary time that define all the years to follow. This first period of life is critical for the development of the brain and language of each child. During this time, the life experiences of every child plays a fundamental role in the hard-wiring of the brain, laying the foundation for all intellectual and emotional development to follow. From the first day onwards, babies are fantastic learners. They immediately investigate the sights, sounds and textures of the world around them.

The Early Years Curriculum EYC® provides the early learners with what they need: a safe world. This world is rich with opportunities to actively explore and enjoy: to see, hear, feel, touch, and move. These early learners need a world filled with responsive interactions and language: Filled with conversations, books, music and songs, and lots of listening and responding to their vocalisations and words.

Our curriculum includes:

Individual Care Plans: Both parents and the primary caregiver establish an individual care plan that is regularly updated to make sure that care routines are prime times that fit the child and family.

Snuggle Time: Our babies spend ample time every single day heart-to-heart with their primary caregiver. All sounds and movements of the baby are met with a warm response: a word, a smile, a touch that signals: "You are loved."

Reading Time : It is well known that long before they understand words and pictures, infants benefit from the joy of sharing a book in the arms of a caring adult. Reading begins with young babies and gains momentum as the children mature. On laps, on the floor, and as they drift off to sleep, infants and toddlers experience the magic and wonder of books.

Where I can grow: During the first two years children are sensory-motor beings. They explore the world with their senses and their developing motor skills. Long before they understand a concept with their minds, their bodies learn to navigate them. The programme provides infants and toddlers with a rich learning environment with appropriate learning centres planned and organized by the teaching staff based on the Early Years Curriculum EYC®.

The world of a two year old reflects the transitional nature of the third year of life. Our curriculum is tailor-made for each child to aid in the transition from the sensory-motor world of infants to an increasingly social world and the onset of symbolic thinking.

The two`s learning environment is based on both the Early Years Curriculum EYC® and the learning centres. Both allow the child to choose and play self-directed games, and together with the supportive teaching the child gets prepared for academic excellence. The development of language, mathematical reasoning, and scientific thought is emphasized throughout all Little Star Day School centres. Changes to the learning environment, activities, and projects reflect emerging interests and individual goals. Learning centres offer guided experiences that encompass all the skills and understandings necessary for optimum development and success in school. Basic learning centres at Little Star Day School include a library, building and construction, role play, arts and crafts, sensory, music, science, language, outdoor and movement.
