Early Years Curriculum EYC®

“I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.”
A. Einstein

All our efforts are based on this quote because we know that children are natural learners from birth. At Little Star Day School we adapt our learning environment and our Early Years Curriculum EYC® to each child's individual needs. Children are encouraged to make learning experiences and to discover the world around them.

The Early Years Curriculum EYC® is tailor-made for children from the age of 6 months until school. It is based on active learning, hands-on learning or learning by doing: Children should learn by playing.

The Early Years Curriculum EYC® is based on the international Primary Years Programme enriched with other learning and teaching methods, philosophies and approaches. The curriculum aims to serve the mobile, dynamic and multicultural families of today. The curriculum works towards strengthening the child’s ability to learn and gain from all the different experiences he or she makes. We believe that children should

  • be happy and safe
  • develop a positive, secure sense of themselves
  • develop a sense of themselves as powerful learners, explorers and achievers
  • develop a sense of themselves as creative and imaginative people

The guiding force and focus of the teachers at Little Star Day School is to develop a strong personality in the children, teach them to be caring and sensitive, which means teaching them respect for themselves and others, and to be independent, confident individuals. These goals and needs of the children are met by following a carefully laid out plan during the day. At Little Star Day School we offer a warm and friendly atmosphere with loads of fun and laughter. We want to give each child a home away from home.

Day plan

Parents can bring their child/ren to Little Star Day School during drop-off time. During this time, the children may have a small breakfast and can settle in while busying themselves in the activity centres. Between 9:00 and 11:30, teachers will work with the children on activities from the planned curriculum. A detailed theme and activity plan is posted for each group at the step of the homeroom. During a short break the children will have a snack at 9:30 and around 11:30 a warm lunch will be served. Younger children have the option to take a short nap in the sleeping room. The older children can enjoy quiet time while reading, relaxing and other quiet activities. The afternoon activities – also based on the EYC® and planned in advance - include time for free play, outdoor games and focused activities. A small snack is offered around 15:30. Parents can come and pick their child up from 17:00.
